Sales representatives are an important part of business success. Regardless of the type of product they sell, their primary duties are to interest buyers and purchasing agents in their merchandise and to address any of the client's questions or concerns.
They also advise clients on methods to reduce costs, use their products, and increase sales. Sales representatives market their company's products to manufacturers, wholesale and retail establishments, government agencies, and other institutions.
The objective of any firm is to market its products or services profitably. In small firms, the owner or chief executive officer might assume all advertising, promotions, marketing, sales, and public relations responsibilities. In large firms, which may offer numerous products and services nationally or even worldwide, an executive vice president directs overall advertising, promotions, marketing, sales, and public relations policies. Advertising, marketing, and public relations managers coordinate the market research, marketing strategy, sales, advertising, promotion, pricing, product development, and public relations activities. Middle and supervisory managers oversee and supervise staffs of professionals and technicians.
